If you’re going to play video games these days, you’re going to need reliable internet service. The fact is that all of the best games are online anymore. The main reason is that the best gamers love competition. In fact, that’s what gaming is all about: COMPETITION. So, when it comes to being a gamer, you need to seek out the competition so you know exactly how good you are. What better arena than the world wide web?

There are several ways to go with internet service. Certainly, dial-up internet can be a little bit cheaper than dsl service but dial up is not good for gaming. Of course, in remote areas, you may not have a choice but if you do, the upgrade to DSL is worth it.

So, what are you looking for when you get an internet connection. First of all, if you’re a gamer, you want the best upload and download speeds. Usually, you’re quoted in Mbps which is Mega Bits per Second. Many people confuse this term with Mega Bytes per Second. It is not. There is a BIG difference. A Mega Bytes per Second is just over 8 times more data than a Mega Bit per Second. Most vendors advertise Mega Bits per Second.

There are many factors that can affect your connection speed. A slow computer can slow you down. An overloaded home wireless system can slow you down. If the carrier that you employ is experiencing high volume, that might slow you down. That’s not to mention the hosting website that you’re visiting. If the hosting server is slow of packed with data, it can slow you down as well. Of course, most credible games have top of the line servers and connection speeds… and they work hard to keep windows in check so that they can keep selling their products!!!
